The first documented text written originally in Catalan is the Homilies of Organya, a collection of medieval Catalan prose, written in the late 12th or early 13th centuries. Ramon Llull (1232-1315), a Majorcan writer and philosopher, is thought to be the first true Catalan poet.

Busuu, the language of a Southern Bantoid in Cameroon was last reported in 2005 as having only 3 native speakers, making it endangered.
